CONROY BOWS TO PRESSURE FROM HUMPHRIES

ACT Liberal Senator Gary Humphries, who has been fighting for better access to broadband in Gungahlin, has welcomed today’s announcement by Labor but says there’s still a long way to go.
Communications Minister Stephen Conroy announced this afternoon that 14 locations across Australia, including Gungahlin, that would be among the first to host the National Broadband Network.
“After almost 3 years of neglect and cut after cut to our community, my longstanding campaign for broadband in Gungahlin has finally cut through,” Senator Humphries said today.
“This shows that by beating the drum loud enough the Government does pay attention.
“It is important to note that there are still considerable concerns with the NBN that must be addressed prior to rollout in Gungahlin.
“I eagerly await further Government announcements on other issues that I’ve been campaigning on, for example:
- Fixing our tatty city;
- Addressing housing affordability;
- Ensuring a safer community;
- Bringing more life and vibrancy to the edge of Lake Burley Griffin
amongst many others.
“However I suspect the reality is that Labor will continue to overlook the real needs of this community.
“The only way that our community will get a fair go is to change the government,” Senator Humphries.
