HUMPHRIES DELIVERS REAL LOCAL SOLUTIONS – FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD SAFETY AND FOR HOUSING

Liberal Senator Gary Humphries today made his final appeal to Canberrans to vote for him for the Senate in the ACT.
I am proud to have announced that a Coalition Government will provide the following real local solutions for the environment:
$400,000 for local solar schools projects
$375,000 for local Green Army projects
$220,000 for water efficiency measures at Canberra childcare centres
$250,000 for water efficiency measures for the local RSPCA
This is on top of a proven lifetime track record of delivering for Canberra’s environment.
As well I have announced $425,000 for more security cameras and a graffiti clean-up, to address a major community concern about rising levels of local crime.
Furthermore, I can today announce an additional $125,000 for up to 20 CCTV cameras in the Woden area, to respond to community concerns, and that a Coalition Government would settle the argument between the Brodburger Van and the NCA to bring vibrancy to the Lake’s edge.
I have also delivered a housing policy which will help address Canberra’s housing and rental affordability crisis and thereby help keep a lid on rising living costs.
By contrast the Greens have talked a lot about themselves and their chances of getting power in the Senate, but they have promised no real local solutions for the local Canberra environment.
Instead they have promised to raise school fees by $1,000 per year for every student attending a non-government school and to hike private health insurance costs up to $1,500 more per year.
The low point of the campaign was Lin Hatfield Dodds’ attempts to avoid debating the Greens’ policy to rip $60m from Canberra non-government schools.
17 hours after noting the new debate venue she requested, the Greens directed their supporters to go to the old venue, and then asked that the media be prevented from asking Hatfield Dodds any questions on her policy.
So much for the Greens’ commitment to scrutiny and press freedom.
However at least the Greens – for all their talk about themselves and their chances of getting power – engaged in the campaign.
Labor and Senator Lundy only engaged for about two weeks of the five week campaign, again demonstrating that Labor takes Canberra for granted.
In fact Labor’s major campaign feat was to defund local housing and rental affordability programs, thereby adding to Canberra’s housing crisis.
The only way to ensure Canberra gets the representation it needs and is not taken for granted is to vote Liberal for Gary Humphries for the Senate, Giulia Jones for Canberra and James Milligan for Fraser.
